Enjoying The Thanksgiving Dinner While Dieting

Being on a diet does not have to be a problem when it comes to enjoying your Thanksgiving dinner. You don’t have to worry about your diet if you just follow these simple tips. You can still enjoy your meal if you learn to stay away from undesirable habits and ill effects on your diet.

Take Small Portions Of Different Items
Obviously, there will be several different types of foods that you will certainly want to eat. In that case, the best strategy will be to have small portions of all the various foods present. That way, you will be able to enjoy the food without having any diet problems.

Do Not Go For Seconds Or Thirds
Your whole strategy is worthless if you have small portions of food two or three times. The idea is to stop yourself from going for the second or third helping by adding enough variety in your meal.

Drink Water
One of the simplest rules to remember is to drink water. Water has the ability to fill you up almost as much as the food at any meal. Therefore, the more water you drink to make you feel full, the less you will eat. HINT: Drinking water that is ice cold also requires your body to burn a smidge more calories to heat it up.

Diet Soda Instead Of Cocktails
Thanksgiving is a stressful situation with lots of family fun around which usually means the occassional adult drinkfest. It’s ok to indulge a little, but try not to overdo it. If you feel you must have a drink or two, opt for something with fewer calories or mix it with a diet drink or “light” beer. In these situations, it’s important to cut the calories wherever you can.

Don’t Hesitate To Say No
Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate and people really don’t want to hear about your diet. Family and friends will usually insist that you have tons of food that they have cooked especially for the occasion. The best way to handle these circumstances is to politely say no. Learning to cope with these situations is only possible if you are really serious about your diet.

Be Active
Last, but not least, when you find that people are finally relaxing or watching football on television, take the opportunity to go for a walk to the local park or another place in the neighborhood. Or you can be the person who takes the kids out to play in the yard. Create an active atmosphere for your family so you can all burn off some of those calories!

By following these simple strategies for this special holiday, you can still enjoy the party without having any adverse effects on your diet. You can even help create a new tradition for your family or promote everyone’s overall health!
